De Montfort University’s campus is in Leicester city centre. The university offers outstanding opportunities for students, including the Frontrunners internal placement scheme, allowing students to work in graduate level jobs within the university, making them highly employable. This is in addition to partnerships with leading companies such as Hewlett Packard. DMU is in the driving seat of the sustainability agenda, being ranked 16th of 145 in the green league of universities. The Students’ Union offers support, advocacy, along with leadership training.
De Montfort University worked in conjunction with Stonewall to produce the Prescription for Change campaign, which interviewed over 6000 lesbian and bisexual women about their health.
The LGBT society is active and runs a range of events ranging from club nights, cocktail parties and film nights to welfare provision and ‘coming out’ advice. They also work closely with Leicester LGBTA society to plan joint events.
The scene in Leicester is small but not non-existent. ‘Helsinki’ and 'DTM' (Don’t Tell Mama) are Leicester’s main gay clubs and with the ‘Rainbow and Dove’, the most popular of bars, Dover Castle, Bossa and newly opened Sloane Bar there are plenty to be getting on with.
